History of Ortakoy Region
Ortakoy neighborhood is known as one of the most beautiful and popular, most fashionable and lively neighborhoods of Greater Istanbul, which is located in the neighborhood of Besiktas Istanbul and the Bosphorus Strait. Ortakoy neighborhood is located in the European part of Istanbul, right under the Bosphorus Bridge. In the Turkish language, Ortakoy means medium or middle village because it is located in the middle of the gorge and the water channel.
During the Ottoman period, Ortakoy was a small fishing village and frequented by Ottoman officials. After many years, due to the many attractions of Ortakoy, this Hanur area is a destination for local Turkish people and foreign tourists. Ortakoy neighborhood is located next to Bebek neighborhood in Besiktas district of Istanbul.
One of the buildings in this neighborhood can be called the Ortakoy Mosque because this mosque is world famous and is one of the most beautiful mosques in this city. Ortakoy with its beautiful and old mosque is considered a historical heritage. Ortakoy's nights are full of clubs. It is famous for entertainment, restaurants and cafes, shops, and also stores for buying souvenirs and delicious food, such as Kompir.
Some of Ortakoy's old buildings and structures are still standing. This neighborhood has gained a lot of fame due to its nearby cafes, restaurants and night clubs. Small tourist markets can be seen in the streets of this area, displaying Turkish arts and crafts. Ortakoy is the closest area to Baghaz Bridge.
The beautiful Chiraghan Palace, which is one of the palaces of the Ottoman era, is located on the European shore of the Bosphorus, between the neighborhoods of Besiktas and Ortakoy in Istanbul. It should be noted that this palace is currently considered one of the most expensive hotels in the world. Campiz Ortakoy or (stuffed potato) is very famous in this area, but other Turkish street foods are also seen in this neighborhood.
The night walk in Istanbul's Ortakoy has a special beauty. Because this area is completely illuminated at night, and the presence of night clubs, music, and night walks bring beautiful memories.
