Beylik Dozo neighborhood

History of Beylikduzu region

According to the hypotheses, the founders of Bilic Dozo, where the first settlement began in the 7th century, were Greeks. BC Beylikduzu was one of the favorite cities of Buyuk Cekmje, which fell under Byzantine rule in the 2nd century, and was annexed to the Ottoman Empire after the conquest of Istanbul. Beylikduzu, which is a holiday resort and agricultural village, was the accommodation of armies during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods, so there are no dense settlements in the area.

Although many civilizations lived in this city until recently, traces of the Greeks can be seen, especially until 1924. After the war of independence, the Greeks living here were subjected to population exchange with the Turks living in Greece. Later, the Turks who came here in exchange settled in this area. The Turks living here were generally engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry and fishing. Belik Dozo, whose old name was Bagh (Bagh), was given a new name after the departure of the Greeks from the region.

The name Kavakali was given to it due to the dense growth of fir trees in the area and the influence of the weather. This village has been a part of Chatalka district for a long time. Kavakli, which was included in Buyuk Chekmeche district after Buyuk Chekmeche became a district in 1988, started receiving urban services from Gurpinar in the following days.
Kavakli with an area of 1,116,200 square meters and a population of 110,000 people was turned into a town in Buyuk Chekmeje region by the decision of the Ministry of Interior No. 93/42.466, which was published in the official gazette dated 01.12.1993 and No. 752, No. 93/42.466 of the Ministry of Interior. Again, based on this decision, Bilic Dozo Municipality was established in the city in 1994.
